We like SunButter too! Even though our son can have peanut butter (not one of his many allergies) SunButter has more nutrients than peanut butter anyway.

My 3-year-old
son had severe eczema until he was diagnosed with food allergies a few months
back. I have a blog that shares our family’s battles with eczema, allergies,
and asthma (yes, lucky guy has that too).

I
think the key is to learn from one another, so the more information out there
to the masses, the better. With this in mind I’ve started a blog hop for anyone
dealing with allergies, eczema, or asthma, either for themselves or as a
caregiver. If you’re interested in joining, please add a comment. I’d love to
welcome you to the group. http://itchylittleworld.wordpress.com/blog-hop/

Unless they give it to you in writing you can not trust anyone. The store can confirm if they do cross contamination however the facility that makes the pizza dough, can that be confirmed nut free? The dough is not made on sight. Again the location can be nut free but where they get their products....can it be guaranteed and I say no.

Thanks very much Marc! Scalded them a third time, just to be safe. I am not allergic to nuts myself, but I HATE the taste and smell, so it always tends to be something I want to get rid of thoroughly, and as I'm giving them away as Christmas presents, thought it was a good time to check I've been doing it correctly.
Thanks again,Laura

Laura,
Thanks for contacting us and even more thanks for thinking of this during your process!

You did the right thing with the scalding in boiling water. This likely did the trick more than using dishwashing liquid. The liquid actually can form a protective barrier around the nut proteins locking it in and stopping it from being removed. Your jars should be safe now.

I have a quick question. I have been given some glass jars to use for storing homemade jam and jelly, but some of them had nuts in them. I don't think anyone I know has a nut allergy, but to be on the safe side I have washed them out thoroughly twice with washing up liquid and hot water and have scalded them in boiling water twice. No one in our house eats nuts, so there are none around (some things in the house will include nut-based ingredients if you look hard enough, I bet, but nothing I can think of really).

I'd be really grateful for your advice on this!

Sun butter is very good in taste. It will contain low calories so their is no risk to increase fat in body. I loved this fat and always use this, so I never go on diet.
